Crypt – Professor Alice Roberts
Publisher : SIMON & SCHUSTER UK Language : English Cover Type: Hardcover ISBN-13 : 978-1398519237   INDIE SPECIAL SIGNED EDITION   LIFE, DEATH AND DISEASE IN THE MIDDLE AGES AND BEYOND The history of the Middle Ages is typically the story of the rich and powerful, there's barely a written note for most people's lives.  Archaeology represents another way of interrogating our history.  By using cutting-edge science to examine human remains and burials, it is possible to unearth details about how individuals lived and died that give us new understanding of the past - one that is more intimate and inclusive than ever before. The seven stories in CRYPT are not comforting tales.  We meet the patients at one of the earliest hospitals in England and the victims of the St Brice's Day Massacre.  We see a society struggling to make sense of disease, disability and death, as incurable epidemics sweep through medieval Europe.  We learn of a protracted battle between Church and State that led to the murder of Thomas Becket and the destruction of the most famous tomb in England.  And we come face to face with the archers who went down with Henry VIII's favourtiate ship the Mary Rose. PRAISE FOR PROFESSOR ALICE ROBERTS ‘She writes as a scholar with the intensity and flair of a novelist’ – Dan Snow on Ancestors

Dogs and Their Humans
Publisher : Simon & Schuster (24th October 2024) Language : English Cover Type: Hardback ISBN-13 : 9781398539433   In my consulting room with a dog lying by our feet, I have seen the very best that humanity has to offer and often in the very worst of circumstances. Private jets or helicopters land, beat up old cars rattle into the carpark, princes and paupers come through the door and every single one has three things in common. One, they love their dogs beyond anything that can be described in words. Two, they will do whatever it takes. And three, they have all come to me for one thing and one thing only: hope. The dogs don’t care whether they are pauper or prince. I don’t care either. My room is the great leveller. Dogs allow us to be the best humans we can be.

Never by Rick Astley
Publisher : Macmillan; Main Market Edition (10 Oct. 2024) Language : English Cover Type: Special Indie editions with signature sprayed edge ISBN-13 : 978-1035049394   SPECIAL INDIE EDITION WITH SIGNATURE SPRAYED EDGE   'I hadn’t been very comfortable with fame, but I didn’t know what to do with myself after I was famous. On the surface, I was just hugely relieved to be shot of the whole thing. I felt like I’d been let off the hook . . . But underneath that, I was pretty miserable.' When 'Never Gonna Give You Up’ propelled Rick Astley into the pop stratosphere, it changed his life forever. Nothing could have prepared the young, unassuming lad from Lancashire for what was in store for him. This is Rick's story – in his own words. At just nineteen, Rick agreed to sign with legendary music producer Pete Waterman – under the wings of music powerhouse Stock Aitken Waterman. Unpredictable, outlandish adventures followed, giving him a peek into the mechanics of the music industry – all of which would eventually take Rick from the shadows of local bands to international stardom. From platinum-selling albums to worldwide tours, the world was at Rick’s feet. And then, suddenly, at what seemed like the height of fame, it wasn’t. At twenty-seven, Rick retired himself from the industry that had brought him much success and financial stability. Behind the hits and the glitz and glamour was a young man coming to terms with his new-found fame, the realities of life in the pop-music machine and the pressures of life on the road, not to mention reconciling with his childhood spent between his divorced parents in a volatile family dynamic. Time out of the industry offered Rick room for much-needed reflection and therapy – and unknowingly helped to set the stage for his triumphant return to music. Balancing nostalgia, fresh perspectives and introspection, with a good dose of northern humour, Never is an intimate look at the man behind the hits – and is a portrait of truth, artistic evolution and the astounding power of contentment.
